Since the Bronco's debut in 1996, Gates has acted as the unofficial ambassador of car audio, attending car shows from coast to coast.
Team Gates was conceived and constructed by the most recognized name in the car audio subculture: a 64-year-old schoolteacher from Phoenix named Alma Gates. Gates and the “Beast” ruled the circuit for a couple of seasons, but she was defeated at the 1998 dB Drag world finals by the current car-stereo king, at 170.1 decibels, L&M Electronics, a team from Wintersville, Ohio. Gates and the “Beast” disappeared for a while, but they haven't quit. Under her guidance, a full-time crew of four has spent most of the last 12 months ripping the truck apart and rebuilding it from the ground up. This month, the Beast will emerge from its hibernation like an angry grizzly bear roaring out of its cave, seeking revenge. As it muscles its way back through the pack toward the final competitions, fans go ballistic, promoters sell tickets, and rivals grow worried.
Here is TEAM GATES!
