Over the past 10 years, an exciting new car culture has popped up whose acolytes strive to produce extreme levels of sound that seem almost insane. The US now has three primary governing bodies that organize car-audio competitions, each body has its own rules and judges. The oldest of which is the International Auto Sound Challenge Association (IASCA), followed by the United States Autosound Competition (USAC), then dB Drag Racing, which is a themed offshoot of IASCA. The three groups sponsor more than 2,000 annual events all together and attract some 20,000 competitors.

This "sport" is sort of like rodeo or dirt-track racing because everybody competes in the same league; a weekend warrior with a little extra cash to put into his stereo system can compete against corporate-sponsored show cars. Although thousands of trophies are awarded each year, nobody makes a living at it.

In the reasonably short history of car audio competition, there have been a few vehicles that are regarded with awe. These are the first great champions, the innovators, and now the legends. If there was a Car Audio Hall of Fame, they would be in it.

Here are three of the legends of car audio competition. Below them is a link to some pictures of other random car audio intallations.
